Studio Ghazaal Vojdani is a Design and Art Direction practice, creating close and ongoing work relationships with cultural and educational institutions, independent galleries, editors, curators, designers, and artists internationally. Ghazaal Vojdani acquired her BA (Hons) from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London (2010), and her MFA from Yale University School of Art (2013), both in Graphic Design. The studio is currently based in Paris (FR) after being established in New York. In 2020 Ghazaal launched Europium — a joint practice with photographer Julia Andréone — focusing on creative/art direction and photography, where together they explore image-making.

As a learner, Kameelah Janan Rasheed grapples with the poetics, politics, and pleasures of the unfinished and uncontained. She is invested in Black storytelling technologies that invite us to consider ways of [un]learning that are interdisciplinary, interspecies, and interstellar. Because not all stories are for everyone, Rasheed’s work considers Black storytelling technologies in relation to the surveillance states, or how we tell stories that consider interiority, lenticularity (or varying modes of visibility and legibility), revision, and spiritual syncretism.

Clara Balaguer is a cultural worker. She is the coordinator of the Social Practices course at Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam and teaches Experimental Publishing at Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. In the Philippines, she co-founded Hardworking Goodlooking, a cottage industry publishing hauz, and The Office of Culture and Design, a research platform and residency program that articulated cultural programming with rural and underserved communities. Through her projects, she is interested in the value of vernacular material culture and processes of collectivizing authorship. She often adopts collective or individual aliases that intimate her service in a given project, the latest of which is To Be Determined. She has lectured and exhibited work at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Harvard GSD, Massachusetts; Strelka Moscow, Moscow; Asia Culture Center, Gwangju; Singapore Art Museum, Singapore; and Hangar Barcelona, Barcelona. Balaguer lives and works in Rotterdam.

Queer/Feminist/Praxis in Korea and the Korean Diaspora brings together scholars, artists, designers, and filmmakers to explore performance, visual arts and activism revolving in and around LGBTQIA+ and feminist experiences in South Korea and the Korean diaspora.
The three-week long conference will feature panel sessions, performance and film screenings, artist’s talks, roundtable discussions, and a virtual exhibition.

It’s time for RISD’s art book fair, Unbound! It's RISD's own art book fair that usually happens at the Fleet Library in April. We are so excited that this year the event will still be happening (virtually) via the Unbound website. This website will be used to promote exhibitors’ work, links to social media, websites, sale pages, etc...

Participating in RISD GD’s table at Unbound is totally optional. Select works that you would have wanted to display physically at our table (zines, books, stickers, t-shirts, etc). Your items can be free or for sale, but you need to have your own e-commerce set-up or instagram account where people can DM you, etc — Unbound will simply provide a link to it.

If you would like to participate (anyone in the community can participate: students, faculty, staff), read on!

Please limit your selection to three items.

Amy Suo Wu is a cultural chimera with a hybrid practice working between art, design and research. Although not loyal to any particular media, technique or subject, the commonalities throughout her work are critical, investigative and playful approaches that often challenge dominant discourses and hegemonic paradigms.

Ernest A. Bryant III, L.P.I., is an artist and critic from the USA. He has a background in interdisciplinary art. He earned an MFA from Yale University, School of Art, where he focused on critical theory, new media, and printmaking; and earned a second MFA in Art Writing & Criticism from the New York School of Visual arts, where his focus was art and society’s relationship to nature, molestation, conservation, and homelessness. In his work he uses nature, video, image-making, history, positionality, theory and humor to examine the ontological conflicts that arise between different aesthetic and cultural values.
