Graphic design is always representational — a file on a hard drive, a print, a series of instructions in code, form or language. Multiplicity is baked into the origins of our field; from the printing presses that established it as a profession, design has always thrived on dissemination, sharing, and redistribution.

The traditional gallery’s function is to show individual original artworks. But graphic design doesn’t fit this environment — when it remains singular, it shrinks from its purpose. In a medium intended to communicate, reproductions are louder and go farther.

With this exhibit, we create conditions for graphic design to travel. From this point of departure, the work moves outward through copies and editions made to circulate. It can be collected, shared, carried, passed on, displayed, reproduced, and placed in new contexts by the people who encounter it.
